The Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce named FreshTracks Capital its Business of the Year at the annual dinner held in November at the Sheraton Convention Center in South Burlington. Sara Byers, Chair of the Board at LCRCC recognized FreshTracks during her remarks, stating:
“The first award tonight is our Business of the Year Award. We recognize a business that contributes to our economic vitality through their steady growth and who is guided by the principles of community service and philanthropy.
This year’s recipient is driven by those principles and is a rather quiet presence in Vermont. Founded 14 years ago, this venture capital firm has raised $36 million in Vermont, even during the recession, which helped to develop and strengthen the entrepreneurial eco system and create a climate where innovation and venture formation are fostered. They have put Vermont on the map as a place where entrepreneurs can thrive, prosper, and find financing.
Notable member companies that are part of their current portfolio include:
SunCommon, Budnitz Bicycles, Draker, and Vermont Teddy Bear. These portfolio companies employ approximately 500 people in Vermont on a full-time basis. While the firm employs four, their impact is large on Vermont’s entrepreneurial community. They take developing the next big thing seriously – creating innovative ways to connect entrepreneurs and funders from statewide motorcycle rides to pitching ideas on a chair lift. Their partners also participate on boards and other roles with the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont, Vermont Long Term Disaster Recovery Group, Burlington City Arts, Burlington Jazz Fest, Fletcher Allen Health Care and the Fletcher Allen Foundation, ECHO Center, Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, Board of Public Accountancy, Opportunities Credit Union, and the Vermont Community Loan Fund.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please join me in congratulating Cairn Cross, Lee Bouyea, Tim Davis, Charlie Kireker, and Holly Killary, our 2014 Business of the Year, FreshTracks Capital.”
