ClearSource was founded in 1998 as a company with a mission to manufacture and sell value-tier, single-serve bottled water products to multi-regional retailer and distributor based customers. The company merged with Wissahickon Spring Water in Pennsylvania in September 2007, with the new entity operating under the name Trident.
FreshTracks invested in Micropack/ClearSource in March 2004, along with co-investors Ampersand Ventures, Prism Opportunity Fund, New England Partners and Boston Community Venture Fund. This investment was made simultaneously with Micropack's purchase of the assets of the PET bottling division of Vermont Pure Springs (Amex: VPS), which included a bottling plant and springs located in Randolph, Vermont. Micropack Corporation changed its name to ClearSource Inc. in January 2005 to better convey its identity as a leading expert and provider of high-quality PET bottled water.
Cairn Cross, Managing Director of FreshTracks, sits on the Board of Directors for Trident.
