Quirky, (FKA Kluster, mophie™) is a community-driven, social product development firm. The company rapidly prototypes and develops consumer products with the help of its online community, then brings these products to market through its own ecommerce channel as well as through major retail partnerships.
The company was founded as mophie™ in 2005 while founder Ben Kaufman attended high school on Long Island, then relocated to Burlington, VT when Ben began attending Champlain College. mophie developed and marketed value-added digital lifestyle accessories, then sold its product line to MStation in 2007. The company has since focused its efforts on developing Kluster, and now Quirky, the community-driven product design and decision making software platform. This concept evolved out of mophie's efforts at MacWorld in January 2007 when the team opened up its design efforts to conference attendees: sourcing, vetting and prototyping three new product ideas for the iPod market in three days.
Lee Bouyea, Managing Director of FreshTracks Capital, formerly sat on the Board of Directors for mophie™ and Kluster.
