The City of Montreal and the STM (Société de transport de Montréal) have unveiled the winners of the bus shelter design competition. The three bus shelter prototypes designed by the Leblanc Turcotte Spooner consortium and manufactured by Provincial Sign Systems will be evaluated by regular clientele and the adjacent community, prior to a city-wide launch of 400 systems. The “standard extension” includes a custom solar powered lighting system provided by SolarOne Solutions, Inc.

SolarOne is uniquely equipped to provide effective and reliable solar powered lighting in an environment where nights are 15 hours long and temperatures fall below -13°C. At the heart of the system is the SO-Bright™ MPT controller, featuring more efficient charging, a wide range of energy saving profiles and run-time extension to protect the system in unusually poor weather conditions.   SolarOne worked closely with the manufacturer, Provincial Sign Systems to deliver an LED solution that contributed to the overall design aesthetic of the shelter. Channels in the ceiling of the solar powered shelters are fitted with high efficiency LED lights that create a design feature as well as providing security lighting for passengers in the shelter.
