Cross described the difference between angel and venture firms. Angels, he said, invest as individuals, each seeking his or her own profits. Venture capitalists are institutional investors who assemble a pool of capital from a number of partners and then invest that capital on behalf of those partners. FreshTracks, he said, starts where the angels leave off, providing $500,00 to $1.5 million on average to each client, who must have a "compelling story." "...within New England, Vermont is virtually tied with new Hampshire as the best places to get funding," Cross said.
